2nd Annual!! Summer Workshops for Teens

Workshops will be taught by Nina Sutherland who is an award winning photographer and visual artist. With a degree in photography from the Southeast Center for photographic studies she has owned and operated a successful photography business in Atlanta and Gainesville, Florida for over 13 years.

Currently she travels nationally and internationally as a destination wedding photojournalist.
Features include segments on Inside Edition and Lifetime TV. Her weddings are also published yearly in the industries top wedding magazines.

BookMaking using non-adhesive bindings
Boys & Girls, Ages 10 & up June 15-June 19 * 8:30 a.m. -12:00 noon Explore the structure of the book, as function or as sculpture. Students will learn basic book construction to complex dimensional book covers.

Bindings will include the pamplet stitch, japanese binding, long stitch and the coptic stitch. We will explore surface textures with paint to include in our books. Finally sculptural elements will be added, using various materials not typically utilized.


Mixed Media and paper Exploration
Boys & Girls, Ages 10 & up June 15-June 19 * 12:45-4:15 p.m. This camp is a great follow-up from the BookMaking camp! During this workshop you will learn a variety of techniques in mixed media including background treatments, texturing ideas, collage, image transfers, painting techniques and basic paper making. We will include some of our creations into a bound handmade book.

Pinhole Camera Photography
Boys & Girls, Ages 10 & up June 22-June 26 * 8:30 a.m. -12:00 noon In this camp, you will build your own pinhole camera. Learn about the original film process of photography. We will construct our cameras using oatmeal containers and boxes. Students will create negatives using their handmade cameras and develop their images in the darkroom. We will have a show and tell session on the last day of class.

Alternative Processes Photography
Boys & Girls, Ages 10 & up June 22-June 26 * 12:45-4:15 p.m. In this camp, we will explore past photographic processes such as photograms, cyanotypes & vandyke brown prints. By using paint-on emulsions, we will create photographic imagery on paper, cloth, wood as well as exploring other exciting 3D possibilities. The surfaces are coated, dried and exposed to the sun to create images. We will also create negatives using drawing, collage, transparent objects, lace, feathers and more.

ADULT WORKSHOP: BookMaking using non-adhesive bindings
June 19 5-9 PM, June 20 9-4 PM, June 21 1-4 PM Non Adhesive book binding is for the bookmaker, photographer, or artist who wants to learn the art of the handmade book.

In the camp, a variety of bindings and bookmaking methods will be demonstrated or discussed. This workshop will also include integrating photographs or other imagery using Xerox transfers, rubber stamping and paste paper techniques into paper surfaces. We will construct adhesive and non-adhesive book covers. Bindings include Japanese stab binding, long and lang stitch, the ancient coptic - open spine stitching.


Adult Digital photography: Making the most of your Digital SLR camera Adult - July 10 5-9 PM, July 11 9-4 PM, July 12 1-4 PM Here is an opportunity for advanced beginners to learn the art and technique of photographing with a digital slr camera.

The camp covers all the necessary technical skills and ingredients for making great photographs—light, depth of field, shutter speed, metering, ISO, flash, lenses, and composition. We will also cover basic editing with Photoshop elements. This workshop is designed for those just getting started in digital photography. Each participant is expected to bring a digital camera and a laptop computer.
